Filippo Marchetti - Filippo Marchetti (26 February, 1831 – 18 January, 1902) was an Italian opera composer. Overshadowed, like other Italian opera composers of his period, by the genius of Verdi, Marchetti achieved one great success with his 1869 opera, Ruy Blas.

Jacopo Peri - Jacopo Peri (August 20 1561 – August 12 1633) was an Italian composer and singer of the transitional period between the Renaissance and Baroque styles, and is often called the inventor of opera. He wrote the first work to be called an opera today, Dafne (around 1597), and also the first opera to have survived to the present day, Euridice (1600).

Italian opera - Italian opera can be divided into three periods, the Baroque, the Romantic and the modern. The Baroque appeared first, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, and approximately 200 years later, the Romantic.
